How does Botox work?

Botulinum toxin is a medical substance that inhibits muscle contraction during facial expressions. Every time you frown, for example, neurotransmitters are released which set muscles in motion and create wrinkles.

By injecting Botox into the forehead or eye wrinkles, for example, this stimulus is interrupted by Botox and you cannot move the affected area – even subconsciously.

Now the skin in the treated region relaxes and wrinkles that are not so deep become significantly less visible and less effective.

When does Botox work?

The effect of Botox sets in after a few days and depends on the individual. As the effect sets in, you will find it more difficult, for example, to frown or furrow your brow.

How long does Botox last?

The effect wears off after a certain time as the body breaks down the botulinum toxin and muscle contraction is therefore possible. The effect usually wears off after approx. 4 to 6 months and you will notice that you can pull your mimic wrinkles.

What does Botox cost?

The costs or prices for Botox as a blanket statement are not useful. On the one hand, there are active ingredients based on botulinum from various medical manufacturers. Is Botox dangerous?

Wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid injections are a proven modern method of wrinkle treatment and minimally invasive face lifting. A tightening of the skin is not quite medically correct – it is rather the effect that looks like a tightening.

The problem with age is the loss of elasticity in the skin as well as a reduction in the body’s own hyaluronic acid. Wrinkle injections are also used to treat deeper wrinkles where the tissue structures are usually “broken” and Botox treatment does not promise the desired result.

Alternatives

There are alternatives to wrinkle injections, such as collagen or autologous fat. The extent to which these alternatives generate advantages must be determined during consultation and diagnosis.

Today, “Botox cream” is often advertised as the medical alternative. However, it is only remotely related to botulinum and does not have the same effect. A “cream” that is sold over the counter can only penetrate to certain depths of the skin, otherwise it is a medical product.

If the tissue is severely weakened or wrinkles are very deep, a mini-facelift or isolated facelift will achieve a truly visible result of rejuvenation. The methods have been significantly refined and achieve a natural-looking appearance.
